During our trip to New York, several had the opportunity to visit ground zero.  It was one of the most moving experiences during the weekend.  The visit was short, because many bereaved family members of those murdered were also brought to the site.  These fallen heroes have had yet to have their bodies recovered.

The devastation we encountered was terrifying.  From the skeleton of one of the buildings at WTC, it was unimaginable to comprehend that this land held the foundation to one of the worlds tallest buildings.  Seeing it in person is very different than from the comfort of your home.  On Vessey street adjacent to the WTC site there is a building that contained a fairly recently built Embassy Suites Hotel and in that same building a bar/restaurant that truly tells the tales of time.

This scene is of chafing dishes on tables with food still being served.  Empty beverage bottles still resting on tables and the bar.  It appears to the observer that this restaurant was used by relief workers to feed the rescue workers on the 11th of September.  Evacuation of this building can only be deduced by the fact of the remnants just described as this building is adjacent to the site where 7 WTC once stood, which was the last building in the WTC complex to have collapsed.

It's fitting that the city's permanently constructed Memorial to fallen Police officers was built along the Hudson River adjacent to the World Financial Center, which is across the street from the WTC site.  This area has been transformed into a living memorial to those officers and fire fighters who gave their lives doing their jobs, trying to save the lives of others.

It just so happened that one of the members of the group from Irvine, CA had with them the arm patch from the city's police department.  This patch was added to the wall of patches from all over the country in this memorial.
