– The City of Irvine invites citizens throughout the nation to meet in New
York City on Veteran’s Day weekend (November 11th) as a show of
economic support and solidarity. Co-sponsored by Irvine Mayor Pro Tem Chris
Mears, the purpose of EPICC, Economic
Patriotism in Irvine and Coast to Coast, is to: ·
Restore
confidence in air travel ·
Encourage
a vibrant economy in the beleaguered New York City area ·
Unite
thousands of citizens from U.S. cities to watch the Veteran’s Day Parade · Honor victims on the two-month anniversary of the September 11th attack According to Mears, “Our
goal is to demonstrate our concern and compassion through action. We want to
assemble a group of citizens from all walks of life – families, business
people, religious leaders, students and seniors who represent the abundant
enthusiasm and rich diversity of the Irvine and Orange County community,
including Muslim-Americans, to travel to New York City. And, I challenge other
cities across the nation to do the same.” The EPICC campaign is endorsed by many New York City organizations
including NYC & Company and Jonathan Tisch, head of New York Rising,
overseeing the City’s effort to regroup following the attacks. “We are proud to lend the City’s unanimous support to this noble
project to show our solidarity of achieving physical and economic security.
Irvine is a great American city, and our hope is to inspire hundreds of other
great American cities and thousands of patriotic Americans to literally and
figuratively ‘get on board’ and meet us in New York City for the Veteran’s
Day Parade,” Irvine Mayor Larry Agran stated. Thanks
to the support of Delta Air Lines, a comprehensive Delta Vacations travel
package is ###
