CITY COUNCIL PRESENTATION from Irvine Chamber of Commerce October 9, 2001

Join the Irvine Chamber of Commerce in New York

Good Evening Mayor Agran and City Council,

My name is Ed Benoe and I am the current President of the Irvine Chamber of Commerce.

Tonight I would like to endorse the Economic Patriotism in Irvine and Coast to Coast on behalf of the chamber’s Board of Directors and membership.

As soon as the details are available we will encourage our membership and other Orange County Chambers of Commerce to participate in the delegation to New York City.

We have joined with other chambers of commerce around the country and become a member of the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce to show our support for their business community.  We can only imagine the amount of devastation both physically and emotionally this tragic event has caused for the companies and their employees.

Serving as the “Voice of Business” in Irvine we were aware of the difficulities that not only our local businesses were experiencing prior to September 11th but across the country.  So the additional burden that has been placed on those businesses in and around “ground zero” must be horrific.  We want to encourage participation as a sign of support from our  community.

We would like to congratulate Mayor Pro Tem, Chris Mears and one of our board members Mitch Goldstone for championing the cause and letting our fellow Americans know that California Cares.

If you want to show your "economic patriotism," please join us in New York City from Nov. 9th - 12th. Thousands of people from across the USA are heading to the Big Apple to demonstrate that it is safe to fly and essential for commerce in New York City.

The national media has been profiling "EPICC: Economic Patriotism in Irvine and Coast to Coast,” supported by the Irvine Chamber of Commerce, The City of Irvine, IUSD, Mayor Larry Agran, New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, Orange Supervisor Cynthia Coad, CA State Senator Joe Dunn, U.S. Congressman Christopher Cox, and many others.

To join us for this fun and patriotic adventure to New York City:

1 - Visit the www.epiccusa.com website and register your name.

2 - Call Delta Air Lines and its Delta Vacations program . They have a custom "Get on Board to NY" reservation desk just for EPICC to reserve air and hotel from most destinations throughout the nation, or order on-line directly from our web site. The toll-free reservation number is: 800-423-TRIP (8747). Rates vary based on your location; It is as low as $599 from Los Angeles, include air, hotel room/tax for three nights and NYC airport transfers.

Together we will lend much needed economic support to New York City by staying in New York hotels, seeing Broadway shows, eating in New York restaurants and shopping at stores just prior to the vital holiday retail season. We are also arranging for charitable contributions as people buy extra tickets and gift certificates. These will tentatively be pooled together for distribution to the Twin Towers Fund along with a ceremonial presentation to Mayor Giuliani.

Join us and thousands of American’s for this EPICC Adventure. It’s inspiring and an historic opportunity to make history as our nation recovers. http://www.epiccusa.com

See you in New York!
